چکیده

− There are a number of algorithms for interactively modeling deformable objects, such as soft human tissues. Because of the desire for real-time performance, approximations are made to quickly calculate deformations. This paper proposes accuracy metrics and benchmarks to allow a systematic comparison of simulation algorithms for deformable objects in 2D and 3D. We implement and compare the computed deformations of several algorithms based on the finite element method (FEM) that rely on the approximations of explicit time integration, mass lumping, or quasi-static motion. We also compare different material properties and show that some algorithms limit the breadth of materials that can be simulated.

A High Performance Solver for the Animation of Deformable Objects using Advanced Numerical Methods

Physically based modelling of deformable objects has become the most popular technique to model textiles, skin or human tissue. The crucial problem in the animation of deformable objects is the solution of the resulting differential equations. Recently fast solutions have been presented. In this work we will first give a theoretical analysis and then exploit special properties of the system and...

Modelling 3D semi-deformable tubes in real time

Numerical simulation of deformable objects is an important problem in biomechanical engineering and computational science. A significant class of problems in this area requires that the simulation results are presented both haptically and graphically in real time (an example being a medical training simulator based on virtual reality). In such cases various types of trade-offs between accuracy ...

Improved Meshless Deformation Techniques for Plausible Interactive Soft Object Simulations

Meshless deformation based on shape matching is a new technique for simulating deformable objects without requiring mesh connectivity information. The approach focuses on speed, ease of use and stability at the expense of physical accuracy. In this paper we introduce improvements to the technique that increase physical realism and make it more suitable for use in interactive real-time environme...

Towards Time-Critical Collision Detection for Deformable Objects Based on Reduced Models

Topics of physically based modeling of deformable objects and collision detection have been extensively researched. Please refer to [1, 2, 3] for recent surveys. Nowadays, the combination of GPU techniques and multiresolution physical models [4] allows interactive simulations of complex deformable objects with a large number of polygons. To achieve this, the geometry of the object is separated ...
